Mohammad Sohag Mia, a 31-year-old Bangladeshi national, was fined BND22,500 by the Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty yesterday to smuggling 25 cartons and six sticks of cigarettes into the country.
According to the customs prosecutor, police discovered the contraband in the defendant’s vehicle after being stopped during a road block in front of the Traffic Control and Investigation Department headquarters in Gadong on October 11.
The court ordered the seized cigarettes to be destroyed. – Fadley Faisel
