Focus on cyber risk at webinar

The Brunei Insurance and Takaful Association (BITA) recently hosted a webinar focusing on ‘Understanding Cyber Risk: Protecting Your Digital Assets from Cyber Threats’.

BITA’s Financial Literacy Awareness Sub Committees (FLASC) Chairperson Suryani binti Haji Abu Bakar emphasised how cybercrimes can pose serious threats to individual security, large corporations, banks, and even governments, which can result in devastating financial losses, reputational damage, and disruptions of critical operations to businesses and institutions.

The panellists were Security Analyst, Incident Response Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) Ida Frida Abu, Assistant Professor and Dean of School of Computing and InfoMYRatics, Universiti Teknologi Brunei Dr Haji Sharul Tazrajiman bin Haji Tajuddin and Head of Technical Underwriting Division, Insurans Islam TAIB General Takaful Sdn Bhd Roslan bin Haji Mohd Tahir. Asia Inc Forum General Manager Regional Programmes Andrew Dy was the moderator.

During the webinar, the panellists covered various aspects of cyber risks, cybersecurity best practices and cybersecurity insurance and takaful. Some key highlights included the importance of implementing safety measures in safeguarding digital assets such as using passphrases, ensuring applications downloaded are from trusted or legitimate websites routinely updating applications and operating systems, installing antiviruses, and perfoMYRing frequent backups.
