Five local companies were fined by law enforcement officers from the Licensing and Enforcement Division of the Brunei-Muara District Office for violations of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021 during separate operations conducted from October 21 to November 2.
The companies were each fined BND2,000, while another company received a fine of BND1,000.
All five companies were found to have violated Section 12(1) of the Act.
Business owners and proprietors are reminded not to take the violations lightly, settle their fines immediately and clean-up sites used for illegal waste dumping.
The failure to comply may result in offenders being taken to court under the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021, where individuals could face penalties of up to BND3,000 and companies up to BND30,000, along with possible imprisonment for up to 12 months or both.
The department also seeks public cooperation in reporting illegal waste disposal by providing location details and photographs via the department’s WhatsApp line. – Lyna Mohamad
