Five errant employers found during labour ops

An operation was recently carried out by the Labour Department in Kampong Batu Marang and Kampong Sengkurong during which five employers were found to have violated the Employment Order 2009.

Among the offences included providing false declaration on the place of business, failing to obtain permission to operate a business, failing to declare the addition of foreign workers and failing to provide employment contracts.

If convicted, the employers may face a BND600 fine for the first offence, BND900 for the second offence, and for the third offence or failure to pay the compound fine, they may be brought to court.

The agency in a statement also called on business owners to regularly monitor their employees’ welfare in accordance with the requirements stated in the Order, such as providing employment contracts and paying wages on time.

Employers are also warned against misusing their foreign worker licences.
