Five detained in immigration raids

The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) conducted two operations targeting different locations in the country recently leading to five foreigners being detained.

The Law Enforcement Division conducted Operasi Kabat 33/2024 in Bandar Seri Begawan while Operasi Kabat 34/2024 was conducted in Kuala Belait.

Operasi Kabat 33/2024 targeted Mukim Pengkalan Batu, nabbing three foreign nationals.

Two were found working not according to their visas and one overstaying after the immigration pass had expired.

Operasi Kabat 34/2024 targeted a house renovation project in Kuala Belait where two foreign nationals were examined and subsequently detained. One was found not working with the registered employer while another was discovered hiring moonlighting employees.

Meanwhile, the INRD also announced the prosecution of Bangladeshi Harun Miah, 32, who was sentenced to five months in prison with three strokes of the cane for overstaying in the country. The case heard before Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif was prosecuted by INRD officer Mohammad Zul Azri bin Haji Ranee. The case was a result of Operasi Kabat 29/2024 conducted in Berakas.

The agency also urged the public with information on immigration offenders to contact the department at 8734888 or 8753888 in Bandar Seri Begawan or 8984111 in Kuala Belait. – Fadley Faisal
