First aid awareness for 40 students

Some 22 students from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Red Crescent Platoon (PBSM UNISSA) organised an educational awareness talk programme ‘Aid First Awareness Talk: Towards A Brighter Equipped Young Aider’ for Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School (SUAMRIPAHS) students in Kampong Katok recently.

Around 40 students from Year 7 to Year 10 attended the talk which raised the importance of basic first aid knowledge such as crucial steps to take in an emergency and to ensure the safety and well-being of themselves and others at home or in school.

Also included in the programme was a variety of educational games under an ‘Amazing Race’ testing the participants knowledge. The participants divided into small groups were granted prizes for their achievements.

The programme aimed to emphasise the practical significance of first aid knowledge to secondary school students as well as support the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society’s vision of generating ‘one first-aider for every household by 2035’ by sparking interest among the youth in learning basic first aid skills and how to correctly respond to emergencies.

The programme also aimed to apply the concepts of ‘good health and well-being’ and ‘quality education’, both found in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as well as to nurture and cultivate volunteerism among UNISSA students. – Rokiah Mahmud
