Two separate incidents of house fires at RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan and RPN Kampong Rimba were caused by activity from illegal car workshops run by owners or residents of the houses, said the Housing Development Department in a statement yesterday.
The department said that prior to the fire incidents, they had notified the owners and had given a grace period before any legal action to cease such activities. The department said under the terms of the lease agreement of the National Housing Scheme, homeowners are not allowed to carry out business activities.
The department urged the public, especially people staying at national housing schemes, to comply with the terms and regulations of the agreement to maintain cleanliness, safety and well-being of everyone living in the neighbourhood. – James Kon
