Final MALBATT contingent leaves for peacekeeping mission

The final flight of the MALBATT 850-12 contingent for the peacekeeping mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), comprising 208 members of the MALBATT 850-12 including 14 members from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) departed from Subang Airbase, Malaysia using the Batik Air Airbus A330-300 on Monday.

The ceremonial send-off saw the presence of Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Defence Haji Adly bin Zahari as the guest of honour.

Brunei Darussalam’s Defence Adviser to Malaysia Lieutenant Colonel Rudie Asmawi bin Haji Abidin, senior officers from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and family members of the departing contingent were also present.

The ceremony commenced with a general salute from the contingent, followed by the MAF song and a speech delivered by the guest of honour.

The chanting of ‘Gempur Wira’ concluded the parade and followed by the recitation of the Doa.

Monday’s final flight departure completed the deployment of all personnel from the MALBATT 850-12 contingent, comprising 854 personnel, including 30 members from the RBAF part of which are two female members for the mission.
