Film screening celebrates student filmmakers’ talent in storytelling

The 5th UBD-FASS Term Screening was held on April 28 at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). Co-organisers from Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences’ (FASS) Design and Creative Industries (DCI) programme Dr Yong Liu and Assistant Lecturer from English Studies programme Mayyer Ling compiled 30 short films by students across six genres – documentary, fiction, experimental, animation, three-minute mini cinema – made by mobile-phone, and music video.

Twenty-one titles were made by students from FASS’ DCI programme at UBD. Seven titles were made by students from Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia and two titles in the fiction genre were made by students from Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology.

The screening was followed with a review from invited media professionals such as Co-founder of Filterworks Production and Progresif Sdn Bhd Content Producer A’aqiil Ahmad and Azeez Danial from C.T.R.L. Creative Agency. They were impressed with the storytelling skills showcased during the screening with invited guests offiring feedbacks to the screened works.

The session was then followed by a question and answer session.

Some of the screened short films are automatically eligible for submission into the 6th Edition PRISM UBD Short Film Festival, which is scheduled to take place in November and December.
