The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) lauded the leadership of FIFA in looking at the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic and the new norms shown in the recent on-field activities, especially with the 2022 World Cup qualification matches, FIFA Arab Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
FABD President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan was speaking during the 7th FABD Congress at the Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong last week.
The president congratulated football’s world governing body on the successful hosting of the 72nd FIFA Congress held on March 31 in Doha, Qatar.
He also thanked FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the faith, confidence and commitment to Brunei Darussalam and not forgetting the support from the FIFA Secretariat.
Furthermore, Pengiran Haji Matusin congratulated Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on the successful virtual AFC Congress on May 18 and expressed hopes that the next one on February 2023 will be held on a physical setting.
The president conveyed his gratitude to AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa on the strong solidarity and commitment to further enhance the member associations’ (MA’s) with the introduction of AFC Enhance Programme.
He added that the creation of the programme will be extremely beneficial to FABD.
Pengiran Haji Matusin applauded the Asean Football Federation (AFF) on the togetherness and continuous support of FABD to get their national teams on board the AFF competitions.
He also congratulated the AFF for the successful hosting of the AFF Suzuki Cup last December, as well as other competitions involving the men, youth, and women football and futsal around the Asean region.
Earlier, the president reiterated that the country’s football governing body strictly adheres to the Covid-19 protocols, guidelines and relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Among the highlights of the Congress included the appointment of the chairperson and deputy chairperson of the Audit and Compliance Committee as well as reports of FABD’s activities and financial movements throughout 2021.
FIFA and AFC delegates joined the congress virtually.
