The exhibition featured at the International Conference of Islamic Universities (ICIU) highlighted the landscape of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), which includes dynamic and technological academic and research activities to meet the needs of 21st Century Islamic studies.
The event also included an activity exhibition co-organised by the Asian Islamic Universities Association (AIUA) and an academic poster competition exhibition in line with the conference theme.
The AIUA exhibition featured activities by the association since its establishment in April 2015, with the aims of fostering the development of member institutions, helping member institutions strengthen themselves through joint cooperation and achieving international excellence in education, research and public service and embracing a holistic Islamic approach. Other exhibits were: research projects under CREATES grant, digital mushaf, UNISSA student research, mooting and winning research posters.
Research projects under the CREATES grant exhibited included a collaborative technology model (CTM) for effective Arabic communication teaching and learning in 21st Century Islamic higher education, which aimed at model that focuses on improving Arabic language communication skills in the country, and an on-site species identification for halal authentication using RPA, which is a research to form field detectors for animal species for halal authentication under the on-field DNA testing for agriculture and food products.
Digital Mushaf exhibits featured UNISSA Mushaf application, to make the UNISSA Mushaf available as an application for Android and IOS devices as a continuation of the UNISSA Mushaf writing project.
The UNISSA student research exhibit highlighted the importance of meeting challenges of the 21st Century through research such as ‘Improving Soil and Crop Productivity using Organic Biofertilisers from Food Waste’.
There was also an exhibition of ‘mooting‘ activities under the Faculty of Syariah and Law involving law students undertaking training in simulated court proceedings.
The research poster contest segment featured the winning entries of the competition; Nurbazilah Sakynah binti Tahir, Irwan bin Ibrahim and Ampuan Mohamad Zaki bin Ampuan Ahmad.
Nurbazilah Sakynah took first place for her poster on ‘The Role of Neuroscience in Improving Al-Quran Memorisation Techniques’.
The first runner-up was Irwan with ‘Face Recognition System Incorporating Mood Variation and Deep Learning Process to Sustain Positive Learning Environment’ and second runner-up was Ampuan Mohamad Zaki with ‘Basic Development of Drone Technology for Local Industry in the State of Brunei Darussalam’. – Lyna Mohamad
