Every drop counts: A community of life-savers

Regular donor wants sons to follow his footsteps

Donating blood is beneficial in improving heart health and lowers the risk of disease, said donor Tan Chee Khiong during a blood donation campaign at Times Square Shopping Centre on Friday.

Tan began donating blood regularly since June last year. “I donate every two months. I hope that my blood can help save lives,” he said. He also called on the public to donate blood frequently.

Tan also brought his sons along to encourage them to become blood donors in the future. “I want my sons to see for themselves so that when they grow older, they will do the same,” he said.

His advice on donating blood was to “not worry or be scared” and to “think positively” that the contribution will save lives.

Organised by The Body Shop in collaboration with Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), the campaign collected 55 pints of blood.

A blood donation campaign by the Serikandi Group of Companies collected 97 pints at the Serikandi Café and Restaurant’s Ballroom on Friday.

Held in two sessions, the event welcomed both Serikandi employees and the public to donate.

The campaign, part of Serikandi’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, also celebrated the group’s 50th anniversary.

Supported by the Blood Bank Unit from Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, the collected blood aims to help replenish the local supply for those in need. – Daniel Lim
