Employers caught breaking labour law

Lyna Mohamad

Several employers were found violating Labour Acts during an operation by the law enforcement of the Labour Department at Kampong Penanjong, Kampong Luagan Timbaran and Kampong Panchor Dulit in the Tutong District last Thursday.

The operation aimed to ensure that employers abided by the Employment Order 2009.

In Kampong Penanjong, an employer was found not providing employees with a day-off on a gazetted public holiday and employing a foreign worker without a licence from the Labour Commissioner.

Meanwhile, in Kampong Luagan Timbaran, the law enforcers found three violations of the Employment Order 2009 for the failure to provide a written contract.

The same violation was found during a raid in Kampong Panchor Dulit.

If found guilty, the employers are each liable to a compound fine of BND600 for the first offence and BND900 for the second offence.

A third offence or failure to settle the fine will be settled in court.
