Embrace worship, charity to prepare for the inevitable, say imams

Imams in the Friday sermon called on congregants the importance of not forgetting or becoming complacent about the idea of death. They urged the people to prepare themselves by increasing acts of worship and engaging in charitable deeds.

It is crucial to follow all the commands of Allah the Almighty and abstain from His prohibitions, the imams said.

They are also encouraged to continually supplicate to Allah the Almighty, seeking faith and devotion in their lives, especially in their final moments.

The imams highlighted the benefits of constantly remembering death.

First, it softens the heart, making one more inclined to repent immediately. Second, it acts as a deterrent against committing sins, wrongdoing, and immorality. Third, it serves as motivation to engage in more acts of worship and acts of charity. Fourth, it lessens attachment to worldly desires, reducing one’s covetousness and greed for material pleasure.

And lastly, death imparts the virtue of humility, discouraging arrogance and cruelty, they said.

The imams added; “When it comes to the remembrance of death, people fall into three categories. Some individuals do not remember death at all with them deeply engrossed in worldly matters.

“Others remember death, which invokes feelings of fear and dread, leading to sincere repentance. Lastly, there are those who eagerly anticipate the moment of death, yearning to meet their Creator, Allah the Almighty.” – Azlan Othman
