DPMM FC Head Coach Jamie McAllister has labelled match-winning hero Azwan Salleh a ‘top professional’ following the team’s 3-2 victory over Albirex Niigata (S) in the Singapore Premier League at the Jurong East Stadium in Singapore recently.
The experienced veteran struck at the death after firing a Miguel Oliveira’s cross past Albirex’s goalkeeper Hassan Sunny, sparking jubilant scenes in DPMM FC’s camp.
The head coach said, “I’m so delighted for Param (Azwan) to get the goal. He’s been a top pro and great character.”
He also heaped praise to the team for showing great character throughout the match.
“I thought the lads showed great character after going 1-0 down, after losing Najib the left back and after losing Ikhwan.”
“But, we showed character, resilience, determination, desire and hunger to go on the lead and to go 2-2, we never gave up.”
“There were so many good performances, Param was outstanding, Hanif came on and he too was outstanding.”
When asked about his thoughts on his match-winning goal, Azwan Salleh replied, “I didn’t expect that, it was a bonus for me.”
Jamie also updated on an incident involving Najib Tarif, who suffered a head injury following a collision with an Albirex player and was rushed to hospital.
“We found out that he’s conscious and he’s okay. So, that was a tough one for the players.”
He further added, “The players were quite emotional after what happened to Najib.”
