Honouring retirees’ decades of service

Expressing heartfelt gratitude to the government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the opportunity to serve, 60-year-old Dayang Kamsiah binti Haji Mudin was among 118 retirees honoured during an appreciation ceremony for officers and staff of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and its departments on Thursday.

Dayang Kamsiah, who began her career in the early 1980s as a cleaner with the Fire and Rescue Department, reflected on her time in service and the recognition she received. “I am deeply appreciative and honoured to be among those celebrated for our contributions and years of service,” she said.

Unlike many of her peers who plan to pursue new ventures after retirement, Dayang Kamsiah shared her intention to stay at home, caring for her youngest child and maintaining the home left by her late husband, who passed away in 2007. She also plans to engage in gardening to stay fit and active.

 

Former Prisons Department warder Awang Ibnu bin Awang Haji Jaafar (pic left), who began his service on July 1, 1989, retired at 55 with the rank of Corporal. Reflecting on his 34-year career, Awang Ibnu acknowledged the challenges he faced and overcame, cherishing the memories and experiences gained. “It has been a valuable opportunity to serve the government of His Majesty, and I am sincerely grateful for the chance to contribute for over three decades,” he said.

The ceremony, held at MOHA’s multipurpose hall saw Minister of Home Affairs, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Rahman as the guest of honour, who also presented appreciation and retirement certificates to the retirees.

The event underscored the ministry’s recognition of the dedicated contributions of its officers and staff throughout their years of service. – LYNA MOHAMMAD
