Unsettled weather condition is still expected this week, according to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD).
The Met Office said this is due to the combination of a cold surge and a low-pressure system near Brunei that leads to more moist atmospheric conditions, thus enhancing the development of rain clouds.
Brunei is currently towards the end of the intermonsoon period. During this period, local wind effects play an important role in governing our daily weather.
Active weather condition is forecasted to persist until Sunday (26 November 2023) with occasional heavy and thundery showers and wind gust may reach up to 45 km/h during or near heavy thundershowers.
Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally at slight to moderate, up to 1.8 meters.
The BDMD advised members of the public to take precautionary actions. There is a high risk of flash floods especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide.
The risk of landslides and fallen trees is also possible during heavy showers and gusty conditions. Sea state is dangerous to all small boat operations, sea recreational activities, and sports.
Public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory, and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.
