Destination Japan: Speech contest winners receive air tickets

The winners of the 35th Japanese Speech contest received prizes in the form air tickets to Japan yesterday.

Dayangku Nur Azmina binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad won in the Advanced Level with her topic There’s No ‘Timeline’ in Life while Muhammad Is’aad bin Haji Rozaidi was placed first in the Beginner Level with his speech Gundam and My Childhood. Meanwhile, Haji Muhammad Izzuddin bin Haji Zaini’s The Beauty of Origami was placed second in the Advanced Level and Nahdatullrma Nadirah binti A Hamidun was third with her speech Mental Health Condition: Sign of Weakness or…?.

In the Beginner Level, Shandya Lumintasari with the topic Parent Love Like a Big Tree was placed second and Mohammad Hafiz Izzuddin bin Haji Tejuddin third with his speech titled Memories.

In the group presentation category, Ma’had Islam Brunei students won first place with their presentation Dragon Ball Z, followed with Seri Mulia Sarjana School students with their presentation More Than Just Noodles in second place and Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College students came third with their presentation The Culture of Japanese Students.

The contest, organised by the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C) and the UBD Language Centre, in collaboration with the Department of Co-Curriculum Education (DCCE) at the Ministry of Education was held at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.

UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle was the guest of honour. Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru; UBD Language Centre Director Dr Hajah Suciyati binti Haji Sulaiman; L3C Assistant Director Sumardi bin Haji Abdul Hamid; and Assistant Head of Arts and Creativity Division of DCCE Imran bin Tahir also presented the prizes.

Vice President of Singapore Office All Nippon Airways (ANA) Tsubaki Risa; Japanese Language Expert from Japan Foundation Hirata Yuna; and President of Japanese Association in Brunei Hara Tadashi were also present. – Lyna Mohamad
