Deepavali dinner fosters cultural unity

Celebrating festivities like Deepavali not only fosters stronger bonds among members but also highlights Malaysia’s vibrant cultural heritage, enriching the community in Brunei, said Organising Chairman Sugumaran Nair.

He said this during the Persatuan Warganegara Malaysia (Malaysian Association) in Brunei Daussalam’s annual Muhibbah Deepavali Dinner at a hotel in the capital recently.

Celebrating unity and cultural harmony among its members, the evening saw the singing of the national anthem, a dinner and an Indian dance performance by association members.

The association’s patron and High Commissioner-designate of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam Datuk Muhd Aini Atan was the guest of honour. The association’s President Azlan Ahmad, executive committee members and over 80 guests were also present.

The Muhibbah Deepavali Dinner is part of a series of cultural events organised by the association, including celebrations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Gawai and Keaamatan. These initiatives reflect the association’s commitment to promoting unity and mutual respect.

Through such events, the association continues to embrace cultural diversity and foster the spirit of Muhibbah, underscoring the ties between Malaysia and Brunei. – Fadley Faisal
