(ANN/THE STAR) – Datuk Seri Adnan Abu, known as Datuk Red and married to Malaysian singer Adira Suhaimi, shared his financial struggles, confessing his bankruptcy declaration back in 2019.
Since then, Adnan, a 46-year-old entrepreneur, In a revealing interview with mStar, The Star’s Malay-language outlet, Adnan, a 46-year-old businessman shared how he has leaned on Adira for support, unable to find stable employment.
The story caught significant attention on March 26, when Adnan turned to TikTok, candidly showcasing his job hunt in a bid to clear his debts and provide for their four children.
His message was one of resilience: “If I never try, I’ll never know! My post on TikTok is just me being brave. I cannot sit in silence and allow others at home to be responsible for me. I don’t care what job it is as long as it’s halal,” he declared.
Despite suggestions to consider e-hailing as a potential income source, Adnan expressed doubts about its viability to significantly dent his financial obligations, highlighting his determination to explore all avenues to regain financial stability.
“I have too many debts … we’re talking about millions. I’ve messaged my friends asking if I could become an agent at Baju Melayu (shops) but they haven’t replied to me.
“I don’t want to die with debts,” he lamented.
Admitting that he feels pressured by the situation, Adnan revealed that he had considered taking his own life. However, thinking of his kids and holding onto faith have kept him strong.
Adnan also expressed gratitude towards Adira, 32, for helping him over the past five years.
On October 25 last year, Adira filed for divorce from Adnan on the grounds that there was no understanding between them. The couple tied the knot in Thailand on Dec 3, 2015.
Despite the ongoing divorce, Adira reiterated that she will do whatever she can to help Adnan. She also asked everyone to pray for Adnan and give him strength during this difficult time.
