    Cultural exchange promoted through books

The Bangladesh Book Corner was launched on Monday at the Muara Library of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), marking a significant milestone in cultural exchange between Bangladesh and Brunei Darussalam.

The inauguration was officiated by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah alongside President of the Brunei Reading and Literacy Association (ReLA) Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid.

Dr Siti Norkhalbi commended the initiative, acknowledging its contribution to enriching the cultural landscape of the Sultanate and emphasised the importance of promoting literacy through reading in the community.

Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona, meanwhile, noted the role of literature in promoting cross-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding while expressing gratitude to MCYS for supporting the establishment of the Bangladesh Book Corner.

The ceremony also saw performances in Bangladeshi traditions and reading of a storybook by the envoy to 24 students from Seri Mulia Sarjana School. The Bangladesh Book Corner aims to provide Bruneians with access to literary heritage and promote cultural exchange between the two countries, through a diverse collection of books, ranging from literature, history, art and culture to contemporary works by Bangladeshi authors. – Lyna Mohamad
