Cluster 2A emerged champions in the netball event of the 2nd Brunei Darussalam Schools Games (BDSG) after easing past Cluster 2B in a 43-13 victory at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
With Cluster 2A clearly in control, one of the highlights of the game included a player making a pass on their back which ended in the possession of the wing attack before sending the ball forward to the goal attack to add to their point tally.
The moment of brilliance characterised the team’s display of attacking freedom and imagination which contributed to their relentless march towards victory.
Despite losing sight of their opponents by half-time with only six goals to their name, Cluster 2B put on a highly-spirited fight with Cluster 2A taking a 9-6 score in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, Cluster 5 secured bronze after winning 34-22 against Cluster 1B.
A total of six clusters participated in the netball event involving 132 female student-athletes.
Planning and Estate Management Director at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Hajah Mastura binti Haji Sulaiman presented medals to the winners.
This year’s edition of the Brunei Darussalam Schools Games featured seven sports namely netball, basketball, badminton, swimming, sepak takraw, pencak silat and athletes.
The multi-sport meet, which is set to conclude today, drew the participation of 911 student-athletes from six clusters of government schools under MoE. – Fadhil Yunus
