Cleaning campaign supports rehabilitation, fosters integration

Some 14 supervisees under the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and 10 Al-Islah Centre residents, along with 39 NCB officers and staff participated in the OYDP Community Integration Programme at Kampong Belais Mosque, Temburong District on Saturday.

The programme, in the form of a cleaning campaign, was held to celebrate the 36th anniversary of the bureau and included participation from mosque members, residents of Kampong Belais and the Rataie Fire Station.

It aimed to foster social integration within the community by encouraging responsibility for the mosque’s cleanliness, promoting regular mosque attendance and enhancing spiritual well-being.

The initiative was crucial not only for maintaining a clean mosque but also for allowing participants to contribute positively to their community, aiding their rehabilitation and reintegration.

The programme also aligned with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024 theme ‘Empowering Future Communities without Drugs’, focusing on community awareness and support for drug eradication efforts.

The bureau hoped the initiative will have a long-term positive impact, particularly in reducing stigma toward former drug addicts. – Lyna Mohamad
