Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), through its Office of Career Advancement and Industrial Networking (OCeAN), has partnered with the law firm Hasnah Hassan and Associates to organise the ‘Career Workshop: Advocacy Skills for Civil and Syariah Law Practitioners’ from February 25 to 27 at the university’s auditorium and moot court.
The workshop saw the participation of 25 students and alumni of UNISSA, guided by three facilitators from Hasnah Hassan and Associates – Managing Partner Hajah Hasnah binti Hassan, who is both a civil and Syariah lawyer; civil lawyer and partner Hajah Dayang Aziimah binti Haji Mohammad Hambali; and Syariah lawyer Muhammad Jafni Fakhrillah bin Haji Jabidi. Participants underwent hands-on training in essential advocacy skills, including the preparation of legal documents and case filings in court.
They were also trained in client consultations and legal advisory, with practical exercises in drafting pleadings, witness examinations and case submissions to simulate real-world legal proceedings.
The workshop also featured trial simulations and oral argument exercises at the moot court to enhance participants’ courtroom advocacy skills.
The programme aimed to provide practical exposure to the roles and ethics of legal practitioners while equipping students and alumni with essential advocacy skills for Brunei’s civil and Syariah legal systems. – Fadley Faisal
