Ceremony marks start of houselisting survey

An oath-taking ceremony for survey officers of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) 2024 was held last Saturday to commence the work of houselisting under the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) for each household within a designated area until July 21.

JPES Acting Director-General Hairol Nizam bin Haji Abdul Hamid witnessed the ceremony, involving 60 newly-appointed survey officers.

Hairol Nizam said that the LFS implementation is in line with international standards and best practices.

The houselisting aims to create a comprehensive and up-to-date database and to provide information that can be used for the LFS, which will be held from October 14 to November 10.

The information to be collected includes the name and phone number of the head of household, the total number of household members and the address. After obtaining the information, the survey officers will also affix a sticker to each housing unit.

The JPES reminded the public to verify the identity of survey officers by checking their survey passes, appointment letters, identity cards, and JPES official vests.

Additionally, households with pets, particularly dogs, are requested to ensure that their pets are restrained for the safety of the survey officers during their visit.

The LFS 2024 is conducted under the Statistics Act of the Laws of Brunei Darussalam.

Information from participating households will be kept confidential and will be used for statistical purposes only.

In pursuant to Section 9 of the Statistics Act, the failure or reluctance to provide the required information or furnish false particulars is an offence which carries a penalty of a fine of BND4,000.
