(UPI) – Pro wrestler John Cena, aged 47, has revealed his intention to retire from WWE after WrestleMania 2025.
The announcement came unexpectedly during his appearance at the Money in the Bank event in Toronto last Saturday.
Cena, a 16-time world champion known for his dual career in wrestling and acting, has increasingly focused on his roles in Hollywood in recent years.
Despite his retirement from in-ring competition, Cena plans to maintain ties with WWE, particularly as Raw transitions to Netflix starting January next year.
During his announcement, Cena’s fans expressed their dismay with chants of “No!” reflecting his substantial career spanning over two decades.
Cena’s acting portfolio includes notable films such as Bumblebee, Fast X, and The Suicide Squad. Additionally, he is set to host this year’s Shark Week on Discovery+, showcasing his versatility beyond the wrestling ring.
His retirement marks a significant milestone in WWE history, as fans and colleagues alike acknowledge his impact on the sport and entertainment industry.
