His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Patron of Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Award attended the prize presentation ceremony for the competition at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.

“The Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2023 is able to generate innovation, enhance technology literacy and nurture creativity contributing to a prosperous and sustainable economy,” said UTB Vice Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman as Chairperson of CIPTA 2023.

She said the competition saw 68 entries, including seven from ASEAN member countries. The category seeing the most participation was modifications to existing products, processes or technologies.

His Royal Highness was welcomed on arrival by Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh; Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah; and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib.

The event saw Co-Head of the Technical Committee Dr Rafidah binti Pengiran Haji Petra give a summary of judges’ appraisal followed by the announcement of the winning projects.

His Royal Highness presented prizes to the winners and later received a pesambah from the organising committee, handed over by UTB School of Design student Abdul Mu’izz Safiuddin bin Sherin.

His Royal Highness then toured an exhibition and interacted with competition winners.

A series of seminar will be held in conjunction with the Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2023 today, tomorrow and on June 12. It will include seminar on sustainable development goals (SDGs); presentations by the winners; and a forum themed ‘Pave Way Forward with Stakeholders’.

The biennial competition, organised by UTB and sponsored by Brunei LNG, was in its 10th edition.
