“We believe that the increased economic activity generated by this Karnival will create a positive ripple effect, benefiting small businesses and encouraging local spending, ultimately contributing to the growth and resilience of our domestic economy,” Bank Islam Brunei Darusslam’s (BIBD) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Junaidi bin Haji Masri said during the launch of BIBD Mega Karnival at the Bridex Hall in Kampong Jerudong yesterday.
He added, “The BIBD Mega Karnival embodies our dedication to giving back to the community and showing appreciation for our customers’ unwavering support. We are proud to provide a platform for local businesses to showcase their products and services, fostering entrepreneurship and supporting the domestic economy.
“By encouraging our customers and the public to support local vendors, we aim to build a stronger and more resilient economy. Through this Karnival, we hope to bring joy and a sense of togetherness to everyone, while demonstrating our commitment to uplifting the community.”
The event, held until November 17, will see three different campaigns organised by BIBD where visitors have the chance to win prizes collectively worth BND300,000, including two brand new cars, as one of the bank’s ways to express gratitude to the community, while celebrating the loyalty and support of its customers.
The campaigns include the Apply and Win campaign, involving BIBD products; the Transact and Win campaign, where customers earn chances to win through various digital banking transactions and product applications; and the Spend and Win campaign, where customers are rewarded on the spot for their digital transactions from as little as BND0.10.
Visitors can participate by visiting the BIBD booth, engaging with the activities and registering for the lucky draw during the event.
As the largest community event organised by BIBD, the Karnival features over 300 booths with 100 vendors, offering a mix of food and beverage, lifestyle, home, travel, back to school offers, wedding vendors, hobbyists, information technology gadgets and car dealerships, as well as free indoor and outdoor activities.
Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, who is also Chairman of BIBD, officiated the launch and toured the BIBD booth, launching the Digital Komuniti programme, a collaboration between BIBD and Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), in the presence of AITI Chief Executive Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar. The programme aims to expand digital literacy and promote online safety awareness, particularly for vulnerable groups in the community.
The first session of the programme will take place during the Karnival itself, targeting members of mukim and village consultative councils, with a focus on online safety and scam prevention. While at the BIBD booth, the minister also experienced a range of interactive games and activities set up to engage the public in learning about cybersecurity and digital banking.
The activities were designed to be both informative and fun, aim to educate on essential skills in the digital age while enhancing public awareness on online scams and the secure use of digital banking services.
Also present were BIBD senior management and staff, as well as senior officials representing the Karnival’s strategic partners, Brunei Economic Development Board, Royal Brunei Airlines, Mastercard, imagine Sdn Bhd, Peak and KRISTAL Media Sdn Bhd. – Lyna Mohamad
