Students of Lambak Kiri Secondary School (SMLK) were treated to a wealth of information during the school’s Careers Day on Thursday.
The careers day featured Royal Brunei Airlines, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Royal Brunei Air Force and Royal Brunei Navy, Pusat Optima Kecergasan, the Royal Brunei Police Force, Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), and Prisons Department giving students information and advice towards their career options in Brunei. The school also welcomed students and teachers from neighbouring schools.
The Year 7 to 11 students watched a series of presentations and talks from each of the services.
The presentations included details on the different branches under each career, the expectations and experiences of the job. The speakers were met with enthusiasm and keen interest from both the students and teachers of SMLK. One teacher said, “It was wonderful seeing these servicemen taking time to advise and guide our students in their career choices.
I’m sure this will be a beneficial experience for our students.”
Following talks, students were invited to tour the stands where they asked one-on-one questions to servicemen.
One of the highlights were the showcases of the vehicles and equipment used in the jobs.
Representatives of each career were applauded for the level of interactivity and detail in their booths.
An FRD representative said he hoped students will develop an interest in FRD and not hesitate to ask about entry requirements.
Students meanwhile were quoted as finding the day “fun and interesting” and a chance to “learn a lot of things and get to know about available careers”.
