Road safety is not a one-way street. It is a shared responsibility, said Head of Personal Safety at Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Dedy Helmi bin Mahmod.
“The most effective way to ensure the safety of our roads is by making responsible choices as individuals. There is a saying, ‘Road Safety Starts with Me’, and I firmly believe that our actions, big and small, contribute to the overall safety of our communities,” he said in his opening remarks during the Road Safety Campaign on November 19.
He also addressed road safety, noting that “every year on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, we pause to reflect on the lives lost to road traffic incidents. But this day is not only a time to mourn; it is a call to action.”
He added that this action serves as a reminder to learn from these tragedies and advocate for the changes necessary to prevent further deaths and injuries.
“Today, we are fortunate to have many of our colleagues to share tips and best practices, as well as showcase the latest technology that can help us make our roads safer. I encourage each of you to engage, to learn, and to take away something that will help you make safer choices on the road,” he said.
The campaign was organised by the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Jefri Bolkiah Campus (JBC), in collaboration with BSP as part of Road Safety Week 2024, aimed to emphasise the importance of adhering to road safety rules among youth and promoting safer practices on the road.
