I am writing to highlight a concern regarding the waiting area outside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Operating Theatre at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.
The space, often occupied by individuals waiting for updates about their loved ones, are far from ideal for providing the comfort and privacy required in emotionally taxing moments.
The current waiting area is not only insufficient in size but also lacks a sense of privacy due to the significant foot traffic in this corridor.
It is particularly distressing to have to explain why I am there to any passerby or even hospital staff who may question my presence. During a time when families are already grappling with stress and worry, the lack of a dedicated and quiet space exacerbates the difficulty of the situation.
I urge the authorities to consider allocating a more private and comfortable waiting room outside the ICU and Operating Theatre.
A well-thought-out space – equipped with ample seating, soundproofing, and facilities for those waiting for extended periods – would provide much-needed dignity and comfort to families during critical times.
I believe this change would not only improve the hospital’s overall environment but also reflect the compassionate care RIPAS Hospital is known for.
It would be a meaningful step towards prioritising the emotional and mental well-being of patients’ families.
I hope this suggestion resonates with the hospital management and the broader community and I look forward to seeing improvements in this area.
