Call for equal rights for all children

All government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the private sector, parents, teachers and grassroots communities play important roles in realising equal rights to every child such as education, safety and health as well as ensure no child is left out of benefits and social security.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad said this in a message in conjunction with World Children’s Day 2023. The minister said this year’s World Children’s Day theme: ‘Inclusion, For Every Child’ focuses on children’s involvement so that they have the opportunity to participate in every aspect of their lives.

The theme also emphasises on the need to ensure each child including children with different abilities, regardless of their background, abilities or circumstances is recognised, appreciated and given an equal opportunity to progress and develop.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi said World Children’s Day is a platform to raise awareness on the challenges faced by many children, including those who encounter difficulties in education, those with different abilities, those who live in poverty and those who are entangled in social issues and family problems.

The minister also said the main event to mark World Children’s Day in the Sultanate is the Voices of Children Forum at the Legislative Council building on November 25. The forum will see students including children with different abilities discuss four issues – health, education, social and environment.

With current hostilities faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza – especially children losing their rights to live in peace and safeguard of their families as well as access to necessities such as play, education and health – Doa Kesyukuran and Doa Selamat ceremony in conjunction with World Children’s Day 2023 will be accompanied by Doa Qunut Nazilah. – James Kon
