Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, responding to a query by Legislative Council (LegCo) members during the 21st LegCo session yesterday, clarified the allocation of funds for landslide management, noting that the Ministry of Finance and Economy oversees the budget for managing landslide areas in collaboration with the Public Works Department (JKR).
However, he added that the Ministry of Home Affairs has been allocated a budget of BND433,810 for Grant Aid and Transfers for the 2025/2026 financial year.
The funding is intended for disaster-related operations, including purchasing equipment for personnel to manage disaster response efforts, such as tarps, pumps and personnel gear.
The supplies will assist personnel in providing services for residents affected by disasters, including floods, landslides, and other emergencies.
The budget also covers preparations for Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPSE), which will be utilised in the event of emergencies.
In response to a question on the PPSE, the minister expressed satisfaction with the cooperation of the JKR, which has identified several vacant plots that could be utilised or upgraded to serve as temporary settlements if needed.
The allocation is part of ongoing efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and response in the country. – Fadley Faisal
