BTS’s Jin lights up Olympic path

SEOUL (ANN/THE KOREA HERALD) – Jin, a member of the global K-pop sensation BTS, has been selected to carry the torch for the 2024 Paris Olympics, as reported by a local media outlet on Tuesday.

The K-pop icon is set to travel to France for this prestigious honour, although specific details regarding the location and schedule of his participation in the torch relay have yet to be disclosed.

Jin’s selection is attributed to BTS’s worldwide popularity and the group’s enduring message of “Love Yourself,” which has resonated with fans for the past decade.

Jin’s agency has stated that it will confirm the news officially once all details are finalised.

The Paris Olympic flame was ignited in Greece and arrived in France last month. The flame will journey through over 400 locations in France, covering approximately 12,000 kilometres, before reaching the opening ceremony at Jardins du Trocadéro in Paris on July 26.

Around 11,000 individuals are expected to take part in the Olympic torch relay. In addition to Jin, other notable participants include former Ivorian footballer Didier Drogba, former French-American basketball star Tony Parker, a Holocaust survivor, relatives of victims from the Nice terror attack, astronauts, and sanitation workers.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will be held from July 27 to August 11, featuring over 15,000 athletes from 206 countries competing in 329 events across 32 sports.
