The Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) FC Academy ‘A’ team collected 16 points to win the BSRC ‘Grassroots’ U-10 President’s Cup at the BSRC football field yesterday.
Brazilian Football Academy (BFA) and DASH Junior Soccer ‘A’ were placed second and third.
President of the Brunei Darussalam Football Association (FABD) Haji Feisal bin Haji Eusoff Patail presented the prizes.
“I feel very excited to see this tournament that was managed successfully. FABD will continue to support any event that is carried out by the academy at the district level,” he said, adding that many of the grassroots players exhibited high talent and have bright potential to be absorbed into more challenging levels.
In other developments, FABD is also putting together a programme involving grassroots level participation in the near future.
“FABD’s desire to change the national football landscape has drawn up several strategies through football programmes and activities for all levels throughout the country,” he said.
Seven teams participated in the tournament including BSRC FC Academy ‘A’, BSRC FC Academy ‘B’, DASH Soccer Academy, SHADA Football Team, DASH Juniors Soccer ‘A’, DASH Juniors Soccer ‘B’ and BFA.
The tournament organised by the BSRC Football Club aimed to improve the reputation and nurture BSRC Club grassroots players in addition to supporting sports activities, especially in the Belait District and for national level academy programmes.
Vice President of BSRC Siti Azzahra binti Haji Hanafi, Acting Secretary General of FABD Haji Matali bin Haji Tahir and members of the FABD Executive Committee Pengiran Jamilah binti Pengiran Haji Bujang and Pengiran Haji Jufry bin Pengiran Haji Tejudin were also present. – Azlan Othman
