The Brunei Darussalam national contingent received a heroes’ welcome after returning home from the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) MSN 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday night.
Brunei welcomed their newest sporting star after female karateka exponent Farhah Syahirah binti Mohd Shamrin clinched the silver medal in the women’s individual kata event.
The national athlete accumulated a total of 24.94 points and trailed only behind gold medallist Pulau Pinang’s Lim Hui Ling who scored 25.68 points.
The men’s trio of Khairul Shafiq bin Khairul Arifin, Muhammad Nazirul bin Haji Johar and Awangku Ahmad Munib Aiman bin Pengiran Hasimudin also won bronze in the men’s kata team event after defeating Johor with a mark of 24.22 points.
Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud welcomed the contingent and presented sashes to the medallists at the Brunei International Airport.
The permanent secretary also congratulated the athletes following their contributions to add to the country’s medal tally in the Sukma Games.
Acting Director of Youth and Sports Haji Mohammad Rosfazilah bin Haji Yusly as well as officers from the Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports were also present.
The wushu team was also part of the contingent that returned home.
