Brunei Darussalam is among the countries with the highest rates of End Stage Kidney Disease globally. The Registration of Dialysis and Kidney Transplantation in Brunei Darussalam recorded a total of 1,018 individuals suffering from End Stage Kidney Disease in 2023.
Highlighting this was the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar during his opening remarks at the “Kidney Health for Everyone” Campaign in conjunction with World Kidney Day 2024 on Sunday.
Held at the Atrium Concourse, The Mall, Gadong, and organised by the Ministry of Health, the Minister attended as the event’s guest of honour along with spouse Datin Dr Hjh Noraslinah binti Haji Ramlee.
“This year, World Kidney Day carries the theme “Kidney Health for Everyone – Strengthening Equitable Access to Treatment and Optimal Medication Practices”.
“The theme focuses on raising public awareness about the importance of ensuring equitable access to treatment and appropriate care for people with kidney disease to improve their quality of life and slow the progression of their condition,” added the Minister.
The event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa Selamat by Religious Teacher Level 2 Ustaz Hj Mohammad Azmi bin Hj Tapau.
It continued with the Minister’s opening remarks followed by the officially launching of the campaign.
The campaign serves as a one-stop centre providing medical examinations and consultations by various specialists related to kidney disease. It aims to bring together all medical fields in one place to raise awareness and understanding among the public about kidney health and disease prevention.

The campaign also includes Health Promotion Centres, Smoking Cessation Clinics, Diabetes Clinics, Obesity Clinics, Podiatry Clinics, Eye Clinics, Psychiatry Clinics, Cardiology Clinics, Nutrition Specialists, and Pharmacy services.
