Bruneian woman conquers Indonesian peaks on solo adventure

Armed with a sense of adventure and courage, Dayangku Ashidayu binti Pengiran Haji Ali recently embarked on a solo climb to the Sembalun Summit in Lombok, conquering Mount Rinjani, Mount Pergasingan, and Mount Anak Dara in Indonesia within five days.

Following her successful summits, she continued her expedition with river crossings, jungle treks, and cave explorations in East Java, Indonesia.

“There have been moments when I wanted to give up because of the challenging trails, unfavourable weather, and altitude gain. But I’ve always tried to never let anything stop me. I’ve maintained a strong conviction that in the end, you just have to do it,” Dayangku Ashidayu told the Weekend Bulletin.

Before her journey in Indonesia, Dayangku Ashidayu undertook several solo expeditions, including a trek to the Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal, as well as mountain treks in Oman, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

She added that she plans to continue her training for future climbs, including Everest Base Camp and Mount Kilimanjaro.

“Packing up my life and moving solo to another country was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done but also the best. It allows me to enjoy new conversations with new people, immerse myself in local culture, connect with nature, and navigate local buses and trains,” she said. Self-discovery and resilience remain her primary motivations for her solo adventures. – Azlan Othman
