Five Bruneian students left the Sultanate for Japan yesterday to participate in a week-long study trip aimed at exploring Japanese culture and fostering connections with Japanese students.

The students are Awangku Md Saiful Luqman bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad, Nurin Aqilah binti Ahmad Athery, Siti Rasyidah binti Haji Ismail, Muhammad Afeef Riyadhuddin bin Muhammad Azharuddin from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Mirza Batrisyia binti Zaifridin from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).

The delegation is led by Mitsubishi Corporation (Brunei Liaison Office) Assistant Manager in Business Relations Hajah Rohayati binti Haji Damit.

In an interview, Awangku Md Saiful Luqman expressed his excitement, saying, “This is my first trip to Japan. I want to learn more about Japanese culture, especially their work ethic and discipline.” He also extended his gratitude to Mitsubishi Corporation, the Japan-Brunei Friendship Association (JBFA) and UTB for the opportunity.

The nine-day trip, sponsored by JBFA, includes visits to an LNG terminal, Shimokita College, Kuzuoka Waste Management Plant, and Sendai 3/11 Memorial Community Centre.

Deputy General Manager of Mitsubishi Corporation (Brunei Liason Office) Sayaka Adachi was present to send off the delegation. She remarked, “Mitsubishi Corporation has been supporting this programme for 20 years to promote Japanese culture among local students. It helps Bruneian students understand how Japanese students pursue their studies and learn about technological advancements, particularly in LNG terminals and waste management.” – James Kon
