Brunei Darussalam are guaranteed at least three silver medals in pencak silat at the 11th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games 2024 at the Robinsons Place Palawan in Puerto Princesa, Philippines yesterday.
The men’s and women’s team as well as an athlete in the women’s singles proceeded to the final and earned a shot of the gold medal.
The men’s team amassed a total of 9.945 points to defeat Malaysia ‘A’ who recorded 8.890 points.
The women’s team also progressed to the final and boosted Brunei’s hopes of landing multiple golds after recording a total of 9.930 points.
The pencak silat team carried their momentum as the women’s team beat Malaysia ‘B’ who posted 9.905 points.
They will be joined by women’s exponent in the singles after registering a total of an impressive 9.920 points, ending hopes of hosts Philippines ‘A’ of glory on home soil who managed 9.350 points.
It was also a good day in the athletics event as Muhammad Ha’aziq Abdul Rahman advanced to the final of the 100 metres after qualifying out of his heats.
The sprinter posted a time of 11.31 points to place third in Heat 2 behind Indonesia’s Muhammad Ariel Hairuddin and Philippines’ R-Man Rey S Cabangbang.
Meanwhile in badminton, Mohd Talipuddin advanced to the semifinals in the men’s singles after defeating a shuttler from Philippines 21-13 16-21 21-19.
He will be joined by the pairing of Mohd Izzuddin and Haziq in the last-four after besting Philippines ‘D’ 21-19 21–12. – Fadhil Yunus
