Brunei Darussalam can be a strategic transit point and distribution hub for goods moving into Sabah, Sarawak, the Philippines and Indonesia, said the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Business Council (BEBC) Brunei advisor Thomas Koh at the launching of the 29th Consumer Fair yesterday.

“By leveraging Brunei’s well-developed logistics and transportation infrastructure, businesses can efficiently distribute their goods to key markets within the economic corridor and beyond,” said Koh.

“While establishing Brunei as a central distribution hub for the transit of goods will enhance connectivity, support regional trade, and foster economic growth, it will also position Brunei as an ideal hub for investors looking to distribute goods across the region,” he said.

“This approach will attract a diverse range of businesses and investors, driving regional prosperity and creating a more interconnected economic landscape,” he said.

One of the key regions within BIMP-EAGA, Borneo, is the third-largest island in the world and plays a significant role in the economic landscape of the subregion where 2020 survey recorded the island has a population of approximately 23.7 million people, with most of the population living in coastal cities and small towns.
