An ensemble of over 30 performers brought Brunei’s rich cultural heritage to life in a theatre production of the folk tale Nakhoda Manis during Pesona Warisan Brunei 2024 on Monday.

The performance, presented by Lakap Lagor Entertainment and directed and scripted by Faridah binti Haji Ibrahim, also known as PWP Medina, depicted the journey of Nakhoda Manis, a young man who embarks on an adventure to explore the world beyond his homeland.

As the story unfolds, Nakhoda Manis is forced to balance his longing for exploration with his responsibilities to his family and the wisdom of his mother, Dang Ambun. The performance highlighted universal themes of loyalty, betrayal and the importance of staying connected to one’s roots, resonating deeply with the audience and passing on values inherited from previous generations.

The event was a major highlight of Pesona Warisan Brunei 2024, emphasising the importance of preserving and promoting local traditions to safeguard cultural identity.

The support from the audience underscored the relevance of folk tales like Nakhoda Manis in today’s modern world.

It served as a poignant reminder that while societies may evolve, cultural heritage remains a vital part of identity and must be preserved for future generations.

The performance was a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire team, from the actors to the creative and technical crew.
