Six agreements were signed between the government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and government of Bahrain on Saturday during the monarch’s state visit to the Middle Eastern kingdom.
His Majesty and His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain witnessed the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on political consultation signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof and Bahrain Minister of Finance and National Economy Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa; MoU on women’s affairs signed by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad and Bahrain’s Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women Hala bint Mohammed Jaber al-Ansari; and MoU on media cooperation signed by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah and Bahrain’s Minister of Information Dr Ramzan bin Abdulla Al-Noaimi.
The monarchs also witnessed the signing of MoU on cultural cooperation by Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi and Dr Ramzan; and MoU on general, technical and higher education by Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh and Bahrain’s Minister of Education Dr Mohamed bin Mubarak Juma.
A document on data sovereignty initiative was also signed by Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew and Shaikh Salman.
Earlier, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, began the state visit with a welcoming ceremony at Gudaibiya Palace in Manama.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was accompanied to the palace by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain.
The royal visitors were welcomed on arrival by His Majesty the King of Bahrain. The ceremony began with the two leaders proceeding to the special dais to receive the salute of honour accompanied by the national anthems of both countries and a 21-gun salute.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was then introduced to dignitaries from Bahrain and His Majesty the King of Bahrain was introduced to the Bruneian delegation.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam then attended a meeting with His Majesty the King of Bahrain and members of the Bahraini royal family.
The royal visitors also attended a state banquet hosted by His Majesty the King of Bahrain at the palace.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam also attended a high tea hosted by His Majesty the King of Bahrain as well as a dinner hosted by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain.
