The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) has released the Report of the Population Estimates 2022 which presents the data of population estimates and key demographic characteristics of Brunei Darussalam’s population in 2022.
According to the press release issued by the DEPS, Brunei Darussalam’s population for 2022 was 445,400 persons, showing an increase of 1.1 per cent in comparison to 2021’s, which stood at 440,715 persons.
The population in 2022 was made up of 235,0000 males (52.8 per cent) and 210,400 females (47.2 per cent). The sex ratio was 111.7 males for every 100 females.
It was also reported that Brunei citizens accounted for the largest share of 76.0 per cent (338,300 persons), while the shares of the Permanent Residents and Temporary Residents were 5.8 per cent (25,800 persons) and 18.3 per cent (81,300 persons) respectively.
From the age distribution aspect, records show about 20.5 per cent (91,500 persons) of the total population were below 15 years of age, 73.0 per cent (325,200 persons) were in the working age group of 15-64 years, and 6.4 per cent (28,700 persons) were aged 65 years and over. The median age in 2022 was 32.0 years compared to 31.7 years in 2021.
