Hajah Siti Fatimah Az-Zahrah binti Abdullah achieved a milestone feat as the only female Bruneian to participate and complete the HYROX Single Women’s Pro Division fitness race held at the Singapore Expo Hall on Saturday.

Hajah Siti Fatimah Az-Zahrah said, “This was my first time participating in HYROX, and it presented a unique opportunity to challenge myself, test my determination and patience, showcase my strength and overcome adversity.” For the past three years, she said, “I have been training daily in various workout programmes combining cardio, running and martial arts. Despite having only one month to prepare specifically for HYROX, I entered the race without practising the actual stations.”

She added, “What I quickly realised was that some stations require more technique than raw strength. Success in the race depends on how well you implement these techniques under pressure.”

Despite the challenges, she said “the experience pushed me to new limits and taught me valuable lessons about resilience and perseverance. By completing the HYROX Single Women’s Pro Division, I believe I gained a deeper understanding of my capabilities and learnt that with patience and hard work, anything can be achieved”.

Describing her passion into fitness and the sport, she said, “My passion for this sport stems from a desire to constantly challenge myself and push my limits. The combination of strength, endurance, and mental resilience it requires is what truly captivates me. It’s not just about competing, but about discovering how far I can go, improving myself, and being better than I was yesterday.”

Participants at HYROX Singapore were able to compete individually or in teams, with divisions tailored to various fitness levels and preferences, including men’s/women’s open, men’s/women’s pro, doubles, and team relay.

The event combined eight one-kilometre runs, interspersed with eight intense workout stations namely SkiErg – 1000 metres (m), sled push – 153 kilogrammes (kg) for 80m, sled pull – 105kg for 80m, burpee broad jumps – 80m, rowing – 1,000m, farmer’s carry – 50kg for 200, sandbag lunges – 20kg for 200m and Wall Balls – 6kg for 100 reps. – James Kon
