The Enforcement Division of the Belait District Office issued a compound fine of BND500 to a local company for littering in a public area yesterday.
The fine was issued as a result of a patrol by the division which uncovered the litter comprising of used construction materials and plastics.
The compound fine was issued under Section 12(1)(d), Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
The company was given seven days to settle the fine, and failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court.
If found guilty, a further fine of no less than BND2,000 and no more than BND10,000 will be handed to the responsible company, while subsequent offences will see a penalty fine of no less than BND10,000 and no more than BND30,000 or imprisonment of no less than 12 months.
