School tackles cyberbullying with awareness talk

Some 170 Year 6 students at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School yesterday participated in a cyberbullying awareness talk as part of the school’s ongoing ‘Anti-Bullying, No to Violence, and No Cyberbullying’ campaign.

Organised in conjunction with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) International Day Against Violence and Bullying at School, Including Cyberbullying and in support of the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) BEST (Bantu, Empati, Sayangi, Tanggungjawab) Programme, the event aimed to create a safe and respectful school community.

Cybersecurity Awareness Trainer and Security Analyst from Cyber Security Brunei Siti Khadijah binti Haji Ismail conducted the session titled ‘Online Game: Be a Hero!’. She provided practical advice on identifying cyberbullying, responding to online harassment and staying safe online.

Through engaging activities and a question and answer session, Siti Khadijah encouraged students to be “digital heroes” by standing up to cyberbullying and supporting their peers.

The school’s commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment, both online and offline, is evident through initiatives such as this awareness talk. By equipping students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world responsibly, the school aligns with the MoE’s BEST Programme objectives for students’ well-being and safety. – James Kon
