Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam’s (BIBD) proactive stance on digital transformation was highlighted by Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, who is also the Chairman of BIBD, during the annual general meeting (AGM) recently.
“BIBD is fully embracing digitalisation to provide its customers with seamless and innovative banking experiences,” said the minister.
“However, as we progress, it is imperative that we remain vigilant and alert to the challenges that come with digitalisation. Online banking security is a top priority for BIBD and is consistently working to ensure that customers’ safety when using digital banking platforms is maintained. Measures taken throughout 2023 include two-device binding, automatic updates to the Nexgen app starting in September 2023, facial recognition capability, and more,” added the minister.
He also said the bank would like to remind the public to always exercise caution and vigilance when conducting online banking transactions.
“To date, BIBD has been actively collaborating with relevant agencies such as CSB to raise customer awareness about the growing cyber threats and scams, especially as digital banking and payment activities increase,” said the minister.
To reinforce its cybersecurity measures, the bank has been actively collaborating with external partners, implementing robust security systems that protect its digital platforms and customer data.
BIBD, reflecting on the key discussions that emerged from the meeting, reaffirmed its commitment to driving sustained growth and development, reinforcing its position as Brunei’s leading Islamic financial institution.
This commitment is not only to shareholders but also to the wider community, aligned with the bank’s mandate to contribute meaningfully towards Brunei Vision 2035. BIBD is committed to building a financially inclusive environment where every Bruneian can participate in and benefit from the nation’s economic progress.
BIBD also encourages customers to reach out directly to its contact centre or any BIBD branch when encountering issues or concerns to ensure timely and effective support, instead of resorting to social media or allowing matters to go viral as addressing issues through the proper channels allows BIBD to respond more efficiently and accurately, ensuring a quicker resolution.
With a steadfast commitment to progress, security, and inclusivity, BIBD assures shareholders and customers that it will continue to act in their best interests, striving to deliver value and contribute positively to Brunei’s socio-economic landscape.
BIBD also extended its gratitude to all shareholders who participated in the recent AGM, which saw the attendance of over 900 shareholders, a testament to the support and trust BIBD has been privileged to receive from its stakeholders. – Lyna Mohammad
