Bank committed to foster resilient, forward-thinking generation

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) recently participated in the 3rd Youth Forum, a collaborative initiative by the Young Professionals Network and the Youth and Sports Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

BIBD Deputy Chief Information Officer Yusof Fadli bin Haji Sidek contributed to the dialogue with a discussion on ‘Bersama Reimagining Brunei.’

The forum, held in the wake of the 20th session of the Legislative Council’s acknowledgement of Brunei’s fiscal hurdles and potential economic deficit in March 2024, served as a platform to exchange insights on the nation’s economic trajectory.

Yusof’s session delved into the multifaceted challenges and opportunities the Sultanate faces in its developmental journey, emphasising the urgent need for innovative and sustainable solutions across sectors. Amid the evolving landscape marked by the swift transition from the Industrial Revolution 4.0 to the dawn of new technological eras, Yusof underscored the concept of managing VUCA – volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. He highlighted the accelerated pace of change in contemporary times, stressing the importance of resilience and adaptability in both personal and professional spheres.

Yusof advocated for a balanced approach to achieving success, critiquing the prevalent narrative that champions working smart over hard work.

The panel discussion also focused on the pivotal role of youth in shaping the future of Brunei.

Yusof emphasised the necessity for young individuals to actively voice their ideas and perspectives, urging current leaders to foster an environment of open dialogue and mutual respect. The discussion also touched on the imperative need for the educational system to remain agile, evolving in tandem with industry demands to bridge competency gaps, particularly in fields such as cybersecurity.

“As we stand at the cusp of reimagining Brunei, your voice, your effort, and your resilience are the keystones in building a prosperous future. It is imperative that we all, especially our youth, embrace a mindset of lifelong learning and unyielding perseverance,” Yusof said.
