Employee rights under the Employment Order, 2009 were highlighted during a labour training session for Bangladeshi nationals working in Brunei Darussalam yesterday.

The event, organised by Bangladeshi High Commission in Brunei Darussalam in collaboration with Ministry of Home Affairs’ Labour Department, was attended by some 100 Bangladeshi workers.

Employee rights, including contract of service, payment of salaries, accommodation, health and medical care, rest days and public holidays, annual leave and sick leave, maternity leave, repatriation and complaints and inquiries, were covered in the session.

Attendees asked questions during the session and also shared their experiences working in the Sultanate while Labour Department officials answered queries and noted issues raised.

The high commission also gave a briefing on the universal pension scheme initiated by the Bangladesh government to ensure the social safety of all Bangladeshi people as well as the Probash scheme for expatriates.
